Good food at a decent price. Very busy weekends. Small but comfortable with good service

Our server Violet was amazing! She was so good to our daughter. Was our first time here. Food was good. Great price for everything you get! My husband rarely brings home food and between bread and cracker basket, soup and salad, entree and dessert he was full and had to get a take home container. Will definitely be back!

Neat diner with a lot of Betty Boop gear. Very friendly!

Service was friendly and attentive without being obnoxious. Ordered the #3 breakfast meal with French toast, sausage, and over easy eggs and all came out well. Quiet with light pop music playing from the radio. The decor is a bit kitschy.

Walked into an empty restaurant only servers and cooks were there. Wasn’t greeted instead got hollered at to sit anywhere. Felt rushed from the beginning got handed our check with our food and was never asked if everything was alright or if I wanted dessert. This place isn’t what it used to be our server Lynn didn’t seem to be a people person not sure why she works in the public. Food was good just needed salt and pepper but that’s not the problem at this cafe.

Would have given them a 5 star rating for having the best diner food around. Never had a problem with the food. Ever. Always hot, fresh and tastes amazing. But one thing I would do is give the waitresses a 1 star rating, maybe there getting to old and less patient with people? Never had a waitress with out an attitude. Only time there nice is when they see how much my husband has tipped. Then they want to start being nice?? And try being nice to our son also? Who is well mannered and well behaved. Unacceptable yes we will still be going to island cafe but maybe just for pick up orders only from now on.

The food is decent, not great. What I HATE more than anything is how dirty it is. Look around at the window ledges, and in the corners its covered in thick dust and webs. I feel that if that looks like that, then how do I know the kitchen is clean? Really gross!!

I get that the Betty Boop decor is part of the aesthetic, but there's a lot. Good skillet breakfast, decent diner coffee, friendly staff. Quality diner

Best place in Lake County to have a first date! Met my fiancee there for the first time and now we are getting married, so there you go—most romantic place in Island Lake. If you have a conversation lull, after stuffing yourselves with generous portions of delicious food, you can always discuss the massive Betty Boop memorabilia collection. If you polish up a bit before heading over, friendly, random, Island Lake residents are likely to compliment your style. Yes Virginia, there really is a Santa Claus, and he loves the Island Cafe, too. Go here, eat here, and fall in love with the food, nutty ‘Boop collection, delightful staff, friendly people of the Islands, and who knows...maybe your future spouse...

First The Good: large portions, cozy mom and pop shop, and Betty Boop memorabilia galore! However, I didn't have a good first impression, as the waitress placed a dirty coffee mug in front of me, saw me look at it in confusion, and then jokingly said "Oh you don't want that one!" I chalked it off as being busy. Coffee was bland, even for an old sea salt like me. Also, the bathroom was pretty dirty upon my pitstop. Makes me wonder how sanitary things are in the kitchen... trying hard to think of a reason to return.

I always had the best chocolate chip pancakes when i was little, lots of good memories there!

Had a good salad and a delicious fruit side. Portions are very large. Pleasant service and nice clean place. Would love to see gluten-free toast so I can have breakfast here!

Hire waitresses that wanna work! We walked in at 8:30 and she said they wouldn’t serve anymore. (We called and were told they were open until 9). There were other customers in the restaurant. Just lazy. If you only want to be open until 8:30, close at 8:30. Better spots up the road without the old, bitter staff.

Nice little diner in Island Lake right on the main drag. The food is delicious and coffee decent. Service is slow, but bearable.

Terrible service and food was not good either. Place is usually very good. Server cursed multiple times within ear shot of our kids.

I've been coming here for years and I always enjoy the atmosphere. The servers are very friendly and always have a smile on their face, which is nice. The food is good and always comes out fairly quickly. I always stop in when I'm in town.

Horrible service, extremely greasy food from an equally slow kitchen, served stale & dry cake as an attempt to make up for the rest. Overall bad experience and complete waste of $30.

Best Friday fish fry in the area--cod, shrimp, and perch. All 3 were good.

This place has the best food. Everything from their breakfast to dinner options are fantastic. The staff is friendly and I have always had good service here. The have really good soup. I just wish that I lived closer to this place, so that I could visit more often.

I adore this place! They prepare first-rate food, their menu is large, The chef in that place is a real pro, I enjoy very much trying all their food. The dishes are consistently of high qualtity, the attitude towards the clients is efficient. I go often to this restaurant and I was never discontended. Highly recommended.

The food is good but the servers are rude, there were two there and both of them were rude, not polite at all. There’s nothing worse than being excited to get breakfast and getting bad service.

Great home made food.

Island cafe is just what you would expect from a neighborhood restaurant. Good breakfast. Okay lunch but nothing new. Dinner is an exception I've been there many times for dinner and if you pick from the daily specials you should do alright. My favorite is the Broasted Chicken. They have it twice a week and it's really good. Almost no grease at all,which is hard to do with basically fried chicken. It's the only restaurant that I know of that makes it. But again if you stick to the specials you'll be happy with your meal. Again breakfast is always good and they have real fried potatoes not shoestrings. Give it chance. What can you lose. Also the prices are very low compared to many other places. Enjoy!!
